i found the minion SS suprisingly fragile. I put a couple of holes in one.

I've had less problems on the ikon i've been running on the back recently.

Use an Aggressor 2.5 on the rear of my hardtail and full sus, with a 2.5 DHF upfront.

Faster rolling than the DHF/R or High Roller but enough grip for most conditions.

For the stated use case (local XC), I'd prefer the Crossmark to a semi-slick of any brand.

Personally I don't bother with Rock Razors or similar anymore, but that's another discussion probably.

Nah, there’s literally no time I’d rather have my old Ardent on than my Rockrazors.

+1 for this. I used to run Minion DHF fronts and Ardent out back, now I just run a Rock Razor on the rear most of the year. Peak based here so it's rocky rather than mucky and the only real downside is braking grip on really steep downhill stuff. Really fast tyre and much gripper than you'd think.

Also have a Rekon 2.8 on the back of my hardtail and that's a good all-round rear as well.

That’s what I meant, and why I leave Ardents on that bike all year.

Misread that one.

I mostly prefer ardents except when it is dry and hardback. I don’t think there is a better fit and forget tyre than the ardent. It’s not a master of anything, but is satisfactory at most.
