Just had a challenge to find a fast 4 door diesel car..
Not for me I might add, I don't qualify for a company car.
Winning idea at present is a BMW 123d, 0-60 of 7 seconds.
Any better ideas?
Cheers!
Audi A8 4.2 TDi
0-60 in 5.9 and limited to 155
Had a Jag XF diesel for a few months, great car, does 60 in about 6secs i think.
BMW 335d?
Can't be arsed to dig out the 0-60 times, but it will probably go round corners better than an A8
I don't think you need to write probably there JonEdwards! those things are rapid
Performance car got 5.7s to 60 and 13.3s to 100 for the 335d. Mine certainly feels nippy.
123d is a great car though but pretty cramped.
Cheers for the ideas so far.. Should have added that budget is 30K.
So this is out then. Co2 of 70 grams, 74 mpg & faster than most things, sorry is not a diesel & missing 2 doors!!

2nd hand 335D gets my vote!
The baby beemers are, I think, best cars in their class, so if you really want a 2 seater but the company car policy will only let you have a 4-door, that would be the option I would go for (the baby is bit cramped in the back, but plenty of room front, and not a bad boot space). If economy is at all in the consideration, the 118d is worth a look, it does over 60mpg at legal motorway speeds, and still fairly nippy. If you are looking for a real 4 door, I would look elsewhere though.
I had a BMW 118d up until June. Lovely to drive, fast, quite economical and well built. But its not a family hatchback in the way a Golf is, if thats a consideration.
Rear leg room is ridiculous and if you have cyclists kness, its not a comfortable car to drive over distance given its real lack of space in the footwells too. And the boot is stupidly small for a hatchback in this class. A rear wheel drive hatchback of this size is stupid if you ask me as the rear space is far too compromised.
Its a small drivers car. Idon't mean you have to be 4ft 6".... you know what I mean.
S-Type diesel twin turbo
My GFs mums got a 5 series touring thing it's fast enough and diesel.
Alpina D3 Bi-Turbo - top of my Diesel wish list
Audi A8 4.2 TDi0-60 in 5.9 and limited to 155
my dad has one of those - bought it a when it was a year old - major saving... very comfy and quick and will little noise.. though parking is amusing as it often sticks out of spaces in supermarkets as it is l o n g
he also got an old high mileage (170,000) 535d - £1000 and it has now done another 30k without a hitch.
Why diesel - if its to reduce the tax bill, then just get a car with a lower purchase price.
And although a 1 series can be had with 4 doors, I'm not sure thats my idea of a 4 door car...
The last time I was looking, nearly plumped for one of these:

But then sanity raised its head, and I took the allowance (and business mileage instead). Quids in and a 535i.

And makes me wonder why BMW didn't do a 323d!
Still nicer to have a six cylinder engine in a 3 series. It's a big(ish) car after all.
And yes tiresome and cowardly tagger of every thread I post in - I AM AWESOME and you, sadly are not.
I was wondering about those tags got one on the Loco thread 😕 I shouldn't worry about 😀
