[Closed] Exposure Axis really lame?

Got one of these for my birthday - meant to be 1250 lumens so expecting pretty great things. However it’s awful - compared to my 700 lumen Moon Vortex it’s pathetic.

I surely must be doing something wrong or there’s a fault. I finally worked out how to change between modes - tried all of them except tap ones and it doesn’t seem to help.

Any thoughts/ something retarded I could be doing with it? If not I’ll try and give exposure a ring and see if they have any thoughts.

Mine is pretty bright, a bit less than my 1600lm handlebar light so about right. The beam is a bit more spotty and focused than the bar mounted lights so you need to bear that in mind. Also the mode setting is a bit tricky so you might have it in one of the lower power modes maybe?

Make sure the TAP stuff is turned off, it's one of Exposure's less useful features if I'm honest, far too prone to being knocked or inadvertently activated through bumps in the trail.

The Axis is a helmet light, kind of a half way house between a Joystick and a Diablo so it's designed to be used with some decent bar-mounted lights too. As mentioned, very spotlight style beam, very focussed.

Charge it fully and then try going through all the modes. There's a video guide on each light model:

I’ve got a Maxx d on the bars - if I set that at close to 1250 lumens it losses all over the axis. The moon vortex is basically a helmet light too with 700 lumens and is smashing the Axis out the park. I’ll have a further play with it tonight - thought I’d figured out the modes but maybe there’s something going on with tap as well. So you tap the lens or the light body etc to change modes with that?

You switch between the H/M/L modes with a tap or the button on the back (I actually really like the tap feature when it’s on my helmet, but it’s a pain if you use it as a flashlight). To change the program which is printed on the back of the torch you need to press the button on the back for a number of seconds and count the flashes, I use PGM1 which gives the highest brightness in the high mode - what you need to watch is that you aren’t on a program where the highest brightness isn’t available, which is most of them in fact.

Is it switching between modes?

I bought one a little while ago and whilst the led changed between green, orange and red for H, M & L modes, when cold the brightness didnt actually change.

My mate had the same issue with his Diablo and spoke to Exposure who confirmed some were shipped with old firmware. He sent his back and they fixed it so I contacted them about my Axis. They were sure that all Axis models had shipped with the new firmware but asked me to send mine back and sure enough, firmware was out of date. Updated and sent it back and it's crazy bright now.

Ah, sometimes it doesn’t seem to change brightness between high / medium / low in any mode.

I’ll try and get hold of Exposure tomorrow to check I’m using it right.

I’ve got a mk5, use it on my helmet as a sole light.

sounds like yours is not setup right or in a really low power mode.

Double click to turn on, single click to move low-medium-high.

If you're sure you've got it at the brighter setting, and it's not very bright, I'd suggest it's faulty, and would get on the blower to Exposure.

Whilst not completely on topic here I got a four4th scorch and find it a great product.

Having owned an Exposure in the past I reflect (no pun intended) they are great bits of kit but feel they are lagging.

2000 lumens from the scorch with two brightness modes for £135.00 is Big Bang for your bucks.

Yeah but the fourth scorch is really ugly 🤷‍♂️

Also couldn’t find a weight for it and it looks quite big - I was keen on decent lumens and very low weight. As long as exposure sort this out I’m still sure this is the purchase I would make.

If the moon vortex pro with 1300 lumens had already come out I’d have been tempted with that at a much lower price but probably still gone exposure to take some further weight off the helmet / have a lower height of light above the helmet to get caught on trees.

Not sure if you have already checked, but it's worth checking what program your light is on, as the full 1200 lumens will only be available on certain programs.

Yeah I’ve scrolled through the 9 different modes but nothing is very good and I can’t seem to get ‘tap’ to work either. Seems the software update is required.

My Mk4 Axis is almost indistinguishable from my Mk15 Joystick when in use.

I bought one a little while ago and whilst the led changed between green, orange and red for H, M & L modes, when cold the brightness didnt actually change.

It was like that from new (only had a month). As such I didn't realise there was a problem until last week when I switched it on and it was mega bright. I could then switch between power modes and it actually made a difference.

But afer 5 mins it went back to normal i.e. rubbish

Hoping Exposure have sorted it when it lands back. FWIW - their customer servicve has been good

Can't fault their customer service. Was sent to them, fixed and returned within the week!

I got mine a couple of months ago. The two high modes look the same, but the low mode does dim a little. Battery life is awful though so possible it might be a bit duff too.

I’d pick up with exposure and see what they say. Sounds like a batch of Axis have an issue - particularly in slightly colder weather.

Picking back up on this the light went back down i exposure for a firmware update - I was impressed at the speed - a week from posting to having it back in my hands. Worked ok for a few weeks (still not blowing me away with power - thought it would be a good step up from my Vortex Pro but it’s not really) - but I’m the cold - even when fully charged - when you switch it on it has a solid amber light on the back of it. Barely goes green at all - and the battery isn’t lasting well at all.

Dropped the guys an email - but wonder if this is a common Axis problem? The Maxx D I have has had no similar issues in the same weather.
