If you were to purchase only the barest essentials of MTB maintenance kit, what would you go for?

We'll take multi-tool/pump/inner tubes & patches as a given, but what lotions and potions would you go for, say three items?

Chain lube, general purpose grease and Muc-Off (or equivalent?)

None of your fair trade Panamanian organic gear butter mind.

A multi-tool and a wide selection of swear words to use creatively as the situation dictates.

Thanks to a lost chainring bolt, I had to straighten a chainring by the side of the trail using a flint and throwing "f***k"s at it.

Cassette removal tool.

BB removal tool.

Head set tool.

All you need to build a bike really. The rest is pretty much allen keys and stuff you can find in any man draw in any household.

A good pair of wire cutters for cleanly cutting gear cables springs to mind. I splashed out for the Park Tools ones, but at today's prices I think I'd possibly opt for something cheaper, though I'm happy to be corrected if this would be a false ecomomy ๐Ÿ™‚

Umm.. External bottom bracket tool pretty essential. Chain whip and cassette lockring tool pretty essential.

I also found a magnetic parts bowl to be surprisingly handy. That's a good one to get as a birthday present ๐Ÿ™‚

Oh, that's four things I've said...

Ice Toolz bike tool set - 32 quid online, fantastic deal, everything I needed - only thing it didn't have was wire cutters, so I used the good kitchen scissors for that.
