I need some new bibs, the X(or 1X) years old howies bibs I have have been epic and really comfy over many, many miles of rides and commutes.
Most bikes shops local to here sell crap these days as it what people round Cambridge buy, BSO's and cheap stuff.
I ordered some Rapha bibs recently, but even with my thighs the leg grippers were lose on my in XL and they body felt short, so moving a size down would be odd, although it might work.
So what are the best options according to the wide array of opinion here.
For reference I'm 5'10"ish 92kg, chunkier in the middle than a should be, but also have broad shoulders/chest so don't look much like your stereotypical 'cyclist' build.
I went from Howies to Nukeproof and prefer them. The material is a bit more synthetic feeling but pockets, fit and leg/kneepad grippers are better than the Howies were, they're also a bit thinner (which I prefer) and cheaper.
Also a big fan of Howies bibs, had 2 pairs , one 3/4 which have died after 5 years, and a pair of normal length which are just about hanging in there.Have replaced with overland/morvello bibs, not as comfy but very very close( for me anyway)👍🏼
I'm a massive fan of Gore these days. C3 all the way. The pad is way better that Howies (I've still got two pairs of 3/4 bibs in use).
Or for cheapness and good quality, just buy Galibier.
Big fan of Howies generally, but have never tried their bibs, however…
Do like the Rapha bibs, just seem to feel comfortable and have lasted well.
Other choice would be Chapeau.
