Anyone using one of these and how do you find it for a typical British winter. Very tempted now there is a bright coloured version, but keen to know how they fair in use.

Been looking at these myself as an extra layer to sit outside in at the mid-ride café stop this autumn/winter, seeing as we'll not be allowed to sit in the warm. So, BUMP.

I have a couple of Primaloft jackets - wouldn’t want to wear them for active wear - too sweaty, but OK if you just need something to keep you warm.

I bought a gillet, but sent it back as it didn't pack up small enough to go in a jersey pocket. The Polartec Alpha insulation gillets pack up a lot smaller, so I got one of those (DHB Aeron IIRC). Lots of riding buddies have the Rapha insulated gillets which pack up tiny.

I have a Pro SL gilet. It's been handy as an extra layer on a couple of occasions. I also have a Flipjak. As dovebiker suggests, I'd rarely ride in it but I did do a Cairngorm plateau ride last winter when it was ideal.

I have a Primaloft Berghaus jacket and it is toasty! Wouldn't ride with it unless doing v. cold , low effort commuting. Perfect to sling in a saddle/frame pack for when you stop though.

Have endura improved then in the last 5 years? Genuine question, as their stuff was overrated and undermanfactured in my experience.

Better buying stuff like that from outdoor manufacturers, ie not bike specific.

I have the Galibier insulated gilet - as others have said, too warm to ride in but great at outside cafe stops - I mean taking your takeaway coffee a suitable distance before drinking it.

With a bit of effort and an elastic band it packs small enough to go in a pocket, though I might give in and put it, and the pump and saddlebag stuff, in a small frame bag.

I wouldn't wear insulated - they are all so sweaty.

Imo, proper baselayers and light fleeces are better.

For stopping and staying warm, I'm sure they are good.

Have a Montane Primaloft jacket, great for cold day walking, too hot for anything more active. Take it skiing to wear on cafe/bar stops, not when skiing, wouldn’t cycle in it either

Thanks for the replies, I have an arteryx atom so gilet I'll try sticking in the pocket and using if it's cold, my only issue is it's black and I'm much more in favour of bright colours in the bike, may look at the rapha gilets as well, if I can find one reduced
