I am currently lusting after some electronic shifting and I am getting very close to justifying E-tap on a new build, utter lust rather than anything else.

Is e-tap likely to drop in price anytime soon? or am i going to get just as good value from Di2?

Di2 is cheaper by virtue of being available on a second tier groupset. I can't see Red Etap getting cheaper any time soon, but you may get Force Etap.

Di2 is awesome. Not used Etap, but never liked the ergonomics of SRAM.

Never really had much interest in DI2, but recently I picked up a Synapse With it fitted.
I'm an SRAM fan, but can see why people like DI2. The auto front trim is really nice 🙂 and the noise makes me smile.

Only things I'd change are.
1- the stupid junction box on the stem.
2- I'd like to swap the button function over.

1) manufacturers are getting better at integrating them. See the Trek Madone 9-series.
2) you can...

Di2 is ossum (road anyway) and you can reprogram pretty much however you like - my rear shifters work the opposite way round, as though I had a rapid-rise mech. Is that what you mean by swap over ?

That's good to know. I built the bike last week and I'm waiting for the new wheels to arrive before I really use the thing.
I'll search on how to reprogram - that's just made me like it even more 🙂

Di2 really is good. I wasn't particularly interested until I hired a Cervelo in Mallorca that had it. The bike was average but the gears were really nice to use. Mainly pointless and unnecessary marginal gains over mechanical but why does that need to matter. I liked it so much that I said that my next road bike will have it and I have just ordered a Giant TCR pro 1 disc which has ultegra Di2. My only complaint is that I don't like the look of the junction box strapped to the stem. I notice the new dura ace has put the junction box as a bar plug which will be a lot neater. I wonder if that will be backwards compatible with ultegra?

You need an interface box thingy (or at least ultegra 6870 does). They're fairly expensive but if you bought the groupset from an actual shop I guess they'd probably do it for you.

I rented one on e-bay. was about £25 I think.

Di2 is simply awesome. Completely OTT for a rider like me but it makes me smile every time I use it. The multiple shifting is wonderful and the levers just feel good too.

Saying that, my wife has got the new mechanical Ultegra on her road bike and that is very good indeed.
