I think you have already failed unless your definition of not expensive is totally different to mine.

A new frame and stans/XTR wheels?

well the frame was £700,the wheels £400
& the brakes are in stock

think with a few well chosen bits ,shld get a build thats light + not over a stock light build price

no one is arguing about that [about stock weight] but you have frame and wheels at over a grand so exactly how is this a cheap build?

Given your budget how about some SID race or team?

I've got a 22.5lb Kona I built for £157. Does that count? 😉

you know-and I'm not looking to start a flame war-
I just don't understand why posts like these:genuinely seeking advice
gets either off topic/'humorous'/or sanctimonius responses for 50% of the time
do only trolls post here?
I thought STF was one of the more credible + grown up sites

I think my brief is clear-I'm just looking for cheap/reasonable gear that does the job/is light/'beats the system' of mass produced ,poss overpriced , heaviness

i think the point is neither the frame, wheels or even brakes can be considered 'cheap' so we are trying to clarify exactly what you consider cheap so we can advise on forks (in STW own loving way :0). based on what youve spent so far a £30 RST isnt going to cut it so how about the Sram XX rebas on sale at CRC? not that id call them cheap but you might?

The Anthem frame can only be about a pound lighter than the Fuel frame. Wouldn't "cheap" have been keeping the existing frame? Anyhow, "good value" might have been a better term to stop all the STW pedants including myself 😉

A pair of SIDs probably would fit the bill or a Reba, for good value fairly light weight kit.

There is no such thing as a bling econo build. Its a self defeating term.

😐

Reba SL would be fine. Or you can often find Fox Floats for sub £200 (especially on DH forums where no one wants them- try Southern DH).

thanks-am looking into that now:v helpful
I reckon I should end up with a 24lb bike for £1700 if I'm careful
thinking about some carbon bar /stem combos off ebay from far east

Dont bother if you want light. Try KCNC stems, top for lightweight but good strength.

Cheap build? Budget components? Has recession reached your area? Lucky you!

"I thought STF was one of the more credible + grown up sites"

Possibly one of the most misguided things I have ever read on here 🙂
