[Closed] Ebike - Indoor or outside storage

Think I have successfully narrowed the search for an ebike but I have an inside or outside storage dichotomy.... If I store it in the house I am worried about potential battery fires..... if I store it in the shed I am worried about theft (and also damp conditions). I dont have power to the outdoor shed yet either but nothing a local electrician can't sort.....Am I overthinking this? Do any of you charge your steeds in the house?

Ours are stored in the garage and have power to charge. When we are out in the camper they are stored and charged in the garage which is under the bed. Don't tend to worry about damp and potential fires.

Mines stored in the house, insurance insisted on it.

Battery fires?? Not sure that would be an issue, trek has a cut off when it’s changed and most of us leave mobiles charging longer than they need to be. My battery is kept off the bike and separate the room, if I’m charging it’s when I’m home as first time I didn’t think it would cut out but it did.

Batteries don't like the extreme cold. Get one with a removable battery, bike outside, battery inside.

Bike and battery in the shed. And are about to move to a lean too in the garden with a lock.

I suspect theft of my ugly piece of shit is less of an issue than if you have an MTB.

I took the battery out of my Levo yesterday, for literally the first time in over two years - I wanted to put it on a work stand and it’s quite heavy with it in!

Extreme cold can be an issue but the British maritime climate isn’t known for extreme cold! You’ll know if you live in one of the cold bits of Britain but I know I don’t.

Apparently optimum storage temperature for a bike battery is 10 deg C. Always stored and charged mine in the garage. If we have another serious heatwave I might move it. With the recent cold snap the water in my bottle on my other bike didn’t quite freeze overnight so it barely dipped below freezing in there!

If the battery is removable, just keep it in an ammo box when not in use.

potential battery fires

I’m known to check I’ve turned the light off or locked the door but I don’t even worry about that. Ebikes aren’t setting on fire left, right and centre.

I keep the bike in the garage and battery inside, partly because it means I’ll remember to recharge it and partly because I assumed it’d be better for the battery.

potential battery fires

Say what now? If it was an issue, the anti fun ebike lobby would be all over it, but they aren’t cos it isn’t.

Inside, because the second a scrote sees you not take it in the house, it will be stolen.
