Anyone entering?

Hopefully will be my first and wonder XC steel HT or long travel FS?

Thinking about it. I did it last year and although you could do it on the hard tail a short travel FS bike is more suitable IMHO.

Been wanting to do it for years but never got round to it, This year I'll be there and on my Prince Albert.

I'll be doing it on the Soul again. This time with a few lessons learnt -
Smaller/lighter backpack (maybe even a waterbottle)
Bigger volume rear tyre
Dont rag it down the hills and face a punctured tubeless tyre
Time is made on the uphills (some are 20mins long!)
Take whatever I can to not get cramp! 1x10 wont help ๐Ÿ˜ฏ

Best event I have done. Be quick, it sells out v.fast!

I might just see if i can get an entry on the day. ๐Ÿ™‚
Might even take the tandem round. I think that's the only type of bike i've not done it on yet.

Sound like I'll be using the Soul then.

Given the amount of fire roads I guess 2x10 rather than 1x10?

ITs very singlespeedable! you will be fine with a 1x10!

Its mostly about comfort than gears.

Things I wish I had:
Dropper post. Lots of fairly steep descents and it gets VERY tiresome stopping and putting your post down.

Bigger volume tyres that weren't Nobby Nics. No grip and puncture a lot when at lower pressures.

I did it on 1x10 last year and was fine. On my yellow mmmBop!

I'm going to try and get an entry, I'll be on a short travel FS and hoping it don't shred a tyre like last year

Yep, successful entry permitting I will be there again. For me, hanging on and chancing my luck on the downhills is way more preferable than grunting a 30lb 140mm travel trail bike up the endless fireroad climbs, therefore 29er hardtail again. For a short one its quite lumpy !

In + paid x2, got confirmation mails at 1804, registration status page looks like it's been flattened now though. Hoping news of the payment's actually made it to smartdata before it fell over...

Lots of unhappy people on facebook who were trying to get a place since 6pm but failed. Sounds like entry was a bit of a gong show this year.
