Hi All,

Is there any actual real world difference between the 2 rims?

For general riding from bridleways through to the Fort William downhill red.

Yes, the EX is stronger and heavier than the XM. Choices, choices😀

I've had both and ride in the peak mainly, with frequent trips to lakes also.

Dinged lots of other rims in the past but not either of these.

With very similar builds I would say the 511's do feel slightly stiffer to me with the 481's being slightly lighter.

So not much difference between them and both are excellent.

If your a heavier rider then the extra strength and peace of mind of the 511's may be the way to go and Visa Versa.

Just finishing up building 29er 481s with dt350s. They're going to be more than sturdy enough for my riding. Not a fan of the matt surface finish though. First time using the PHR system too.

I’ve had XM481s on for the last year. Riding style is occasional Enduro races, but of Peaks, bit of Lakes, bit of Finale Ligure and lots of jumping about in the woods.

They have been really good considering I’ve run them well past their intended use, the rear has a few dents and is probably due a replacement soon, but I’ve shredded at least 3 tyres on it, and rode half a rocky stage with a flat rear last weekend. I am tempted to try the EX on the back next but certainly wouldn’t be afraid of running the XM again.

Can’t comment on the 481’s but the 511’s are brill. I run them on my DH bike and they’ve been brill in the last 18months; still true and no dings etc.
