I've a set of 819 rims on DT Swiss Oynx hubs. The rear hub was long over due a strip down and clean. Downloaded the instructions from the DT Swiss site and ordered replacement bearings. So last night I gave it a go and it was fairly straight forward. Freehub is less notchy and sounds good. Problem is the axle isn't spinning very freely as there seems to be a lot of resistance.

I'm guess I could have damaged the cartridge bearings pressing them in, but I don't think I did - they felt smooth before I re fitted the freehub body.

Perhaps I have overtightened the end nuts, instructions said 17NM of torque and as I don't have a torque wrench I just tightened them up to what I thought was sensible.

Finally, I may have used too heavy a grease or used too much grease but I would have thought that would have had more of an effect on the freehub body rather than the actual axle? I did grease the outside of both cartridge bearings before fitting the end caps - could I have used too much grease? or do I just need to bed the hub in a bit again to let everything settle in ?

Anybody got any ideas ? Is it a trip to the LBS and admitting defeat?

I did this a while ago and found one of the new bearings was not fully home, one sorted ran much better. Grease for the freewheel I was advised to use that white light grease that comes in a toothpaste type tube.
