im looking at various different dh bikes and ive noticed a few models have an 8 after their name. giant glory 8 or 8.8 spechs demo 8, santa cruz super 8 ect ect, what does this 8 refer too? is it 8 inches of travel, if so does that make the 9, 9 inches?
Sometimes refers to bike spec, sometimes refers to travel.
Specialized Demo 8 has 8 inches of travel, the Demo 9 of yesteryear had 9 inches of travel. The Santa Cruz V10 has 10 inches of travel. The Transition TR450 has 450 inches of travel.
The trek session 9.9 has 8.2 inches of travel.

It is an indication of the specific gnar quotient of the bike in question.
