Currently have a 2009 Specialized stumpy carbon hardtail and have been offered a 2010 epic carbon marathon. Not really ridden an epic for more than a couple of hundred yards as a mate used to have an older model. Can't have both due to lack of space / funds and I have a buyer lined up for the hardtail. Agreed enough dosh for the hardtail to virtually make it a zero cash swap. Just can't make my mind up. Any (constructive) advice welcome.

I was riding a Spesh S-works Hardtail Carbon 2008.
Sold it, got a 2010 Spesh Epic.
It's the best XC race bike I have ever ridden. I've only ever said that about three bikes in 25+ years of MTBing.
It climbs better than the hardtail esp' on tech stuff.
It descends much much faster.
When hardtails are having to back off and stand up you just ride straight on through.
Don't tell eveyone, else I'll lose my advantage! 😉
