[#1242399]

I'm looking for a new fork for my PA. Basically I'm looking for compromise between fun on the trails with downhills and small jumps and drops, and lighter weight, climbing ability and long distance riding (building up to the Kielder 100).

Possibly looking at the Reba/Fox 120mm option. Does anyone have any experience of this on their PA (or similar steel hardtails)? Or should I just go with a 130/140 revelation/float and carry the extra weight?

Any opinions appreciated.

Got 130 coil revs on mine - reliable without much of a weight penalty....

I have 145mm Nixon Elite coils which can be wound down to 115mm. Plush and not too heavy at under 5lbs. Might not be new enough for you though.

I had an Alpine with coil Pikes - it was a blast!
The Pikes are for sale if you're interested (U Turn, 426, maxle with pop loc)

u-turn coil pikes for me. the perfect fork for a PA. slackens it off a touch at full length and wind them in for longer climbs.

Thanks for the replies, so all of you are using longer forks then. Anyone used their Prince Albert for enduros?

JohnnyB, could be interested in those Pikes of yours, got any pictures you can email.

Sorry for the Hijack.

I had a PA a while ago and it seemed great with 130mm Vans.

Had air Revelations on, now have air Pikes. The former are great if you're doing more xc/trail stuff. tbh, I only have the Pikes as my flatmate at the time was getting rid and the 20mm front looks more reassuringly solid.

I've run mine with several heights and am convinced around a 520 a-c works best for me. That includes 130 Marzocchis, 140 RS and Fox and 145 Nixons.

I did the Trans Provence (The definitive mountain bike event-apparently) on a Prince Albert with a longer fork. It was fine except towards the end of the week it had grown longer (or was it just me???)in the top tube, so I had problems on the tight switchbacks. 😳
The fork? A Z1 Anniversary 150mm with ETA

Because I prefer Marzocchis thats why. Pikes are far too steep in my opinion and it was for me to ride!!

I run u turn coil Pikes at 130mm have had revs on but too flexy for such a strong bike.

Its cool!

I've had 130mm Rev's, Pikes and 140mm Vans on mine.....now on 130mm Magura Laurins

[IMG] [/IMG]

Another 853 Albert..... a rare breed. Nice for xc stuff at 130mm and the Laurins are amazing. Want Pikes again though purely for the 20mm axle...(will swap my Magura's for some pikes if anyone is interested???)

Same problem myself,

Just ordered my PA and now pondering over fork choice - have a few sets of decent QR wheels makes me not keen to go bolt through so was thinking 140 Rev Race at around £300 may be a good option.
Anyone see any issues with running a fork this size without the U-turn facility, which seems to add about £150 to the cost.....

hilldodger - I have travel adjust on my 145mm Nixons but I never use it even on the really steep stuff. I also didn't buy the Nixons because they had travel adjust. I needed forks in a hurray and these were available. The front end doesn't feel particularly high on the PA but I guess it depends on what you are used to.

it depends on what you are used to.

Well as this will be my first foray into 'hardcore' territory )having 'til now run nothing more than pure XC bikes) I guess everything will feel a bit different, may as well go for the 140's and get the full experience 😉

Don't do what i did and put a Shiver SC on... they weigh more than the frame I think.. still nice fork.
