Out this morning walking the dog on my local natural/ cheeky trails, walking because its so wet you;ll just dig up the loamy soil. Only to find someone has decided to dig up stones etc to build burms and jumps.

Now I and the culprits live just 7 miles from Llandegla so why alter the natural trails when you've got all the man made stuff 10mins up the road

All this will do is ruin the access for everyone else

You can ride 7 miles in 10 minutes? Have you thought about entering the time trial at the Olympics? ๐Ÿ™‚

and do the folks that build jumps and burms (sic) tend to be of driving age?

Stereotype alert, those digging jumps tend to be young, tend to be influenced by mags, tend not to be able to drive, tend to have little understanding of the implication of their actions.

Natural trails are in fact man made.

Not if they are sheep/deer/badger/etc trails. which depending on where you live could well be the first creator of the trail.

"natural" trails - those that were laid out by God when he assembles the planet? Just being facetious, sorry.

As said the culprits are likely to be 14 to 18yrs old and unable to drive and even if they could they may not be interested in big loops with jumps and berms. They're probably more interested in playing on a few hundred metres of track they have made.

It's not nice and I'd tut if I came across it but in reality this is pretty harmless compared to what the Daily Mail tells me the Youf usually get up to.

I regularly do actualy, I can ride to the woods from my door, but that adds about 1000ft of climbing and about 12 miles to any ride, so I can either ride the same farm track twice each day, or go ride different trails each day of the week.

If they are ruining the trail then you could stop and make it safe yet still fun for what they want, sometimes just needs half hour to tidy this kind of stuff up and you can keep the land owners happy too. Everyone likes to build stuff... Just me?

NB I do it with permission etc.

Not everyone likes to build stuff - I like to ride stuff that evolves through use not through selfish digging to make the trail how I want it.

good on em. showing initiative, teamwork, stamina etc to build these trails. If all of the youth in this country showed the same characteristics it would be a good thing

Only Schrader valves. They can't undo the knurls on a presta (no opposing thumbs)

those digging jumps
tend to be young
tend to be influenced by mags
tend not to be able to drive
tend to have little understanding of the implication of their actions.

Nope - 42
Nope - Only buy one mag occasionally (for the cover toy)
Nope - + 25 years, two and four wheels
Nope - Understand completely but not really caring.

I have fitted that stereotype in the past. I still build and applaud anyone who's prepared to lift a spade. Too many folk complain but never contribute. If done with a bit of thought, there's no harm in making a trail more fun for the majority of riders. If done badly, it can be easily fixed and lessons learnt.

Once building gets in the blood, it's impossible to shake!

Plus when it's really orrible out there, it's a close second to riding. You really reap the rewards when the weather improves.

Spent 1 1/2 hrs this morning with mugboo junior in a rucksack, raking and creating. Went back tonight with a folding saw and, hey presto, more fiendishly difficult lines to ride ๐Ÿ™‚

And if your doing within cycling distance you can justify it as 'green'. Saves you driving to ....
