I recently changed my drive chain from 2 to 1x, with a shimano slx rear derailleur.

Loving it, until the b-screw chomped it's way through the tab thats supposed to keep it in place. Replaced the hanger, and first ride back it's done the same thing!! My thoughts;

1. Chain too short?

2. Clutch too tight.

Anyone else had this?

pic?

at a guess - chain too short and putting a lot of pressure on the screw via the mech,

Is the bolt resting on the tab properly?

Have found with some mechs/hangers that some times the bolt doesn't sit square on the tab. Especially when you wind it in to increase clearance.

Or the tab on the mech is bent slightly.

That was mean (and also 100% true!) I'll lengthen the chain a touch before I fit the next one. I've changed a few chains and never had a problem before, but that doesn't say much hah.

And it only sits about half the screw on the tab, but the old mech was like that too. There must be a fair old amount of force to gouge out even that much of the tab!

Saw this recently on a Whyte full sus with Sram Eagle, fitted a new hanger and the B-screw was barely contacting it. I suggested fabricating something to extend the tab, and locate it better, but he took it as it was and part-exed it elsewhere.

Is it a full suss? If so was chain length done with suspension set to the point where the rear wheel is furthest from the BB?
