Would a small dent in a top tube affect the sale of an alu DH bike? It hasn't weakened the frame at all and has been there for two years without getting any worse or affecting the ride of the bike at all.

If you had a choice between 2 similar bikes for the same price and one had a dent in the top tube which one would you buy?
Also a dent will always weaken a bike maybe not by much but it will still be weaker.

So in answer to your question yes it will make the bike worth less but if the dent is not bad you might still get a reasonable price for it.

It is going to affect the sale because it will put some people off, it's as simple as that.

As for whether it's a problem or not, that's a different issue.

Bikes pick up dents and experienced riders know this.

I've sold a couple of dented frames, I'd expect to get maybe 30% less.

Yes, but a serious rider will still pay less for it ๐Ÿ˜›

both points are valid
however if i was buying a frame i'd be reluctant to buy it due to not knowing its history so as chakaping says it would have to be at a reduced price
if it was mine however i would carry on riding it unless it felt any different after being dented

Did you read the line below where I estimated about 30% less.

That's based on selling frames I have dented BTW.

I wouldn't buy a dented frame but if it was my own and I dented it then I would carry on riding it. It also annoys me when people say it hasn't weakened the frame. It will of weakened the frame but to what extent nobody knows. Just because it hasn't failed yet doesn't mean it won't. Remember the standing on an empty coke can experiment at school. It held a persons weight fine until someone gently tapped the side.

I wouldn't buy a dented frame unless it was very (very) cheap or I knew the owner. As others have commented I would ride my own if it was dented but second hand where you know nothing about the history I'd be worried it was hiding other problems.

Just my 2p though
