I have a pair of carbon aero rims for a road bike. The only thing I don't know about them, is if they are for normal tyres or glue on ones! They look just like a MTB rim with the well that a bead would fit into. Would that be the difference?

If they have a hook on the edge of the rim, like on your mtb rim they're for clinchers. if its concave like here... http://www.parktool.com/repair/readhowto.asp?id=101 it a tub so needs glueing.

I have just bought a set of these at a really cheap price off e-bay.

http://www.projektwheels.co.uk/ in tubular form (glue on) I have stripped them down to put my own choice of hubs in. You should be able to compare pics of the 2 different types of rim.

Anyway, basically, a clincher rim has a vertical sidewall with a bead at the top for the tyre to sit in and a tubular (glue on) rim has a defined concave shape and no vertical side to it....

Hope this helps..... ๐Ÿ˜‰

EDIT.... as aa said! ๐Ÿ˜‰

Get yourself some carbon specific brake pads too. Else you will go merrily sailing on the first time you go to brake. Always high comedy at road races in the wet.
