Hi all,

Cyclocross question for a change! Im looking at a CX bike for general hacking when the MTB is just too much. Im looking at the Giant TCX, and have found one in a M/L at the right price but im concerned this is going to be a tad big - Im 5'11" with 32" inseam. Going by Giants sizing guide, my height is the first that’s recommended for the M/L, an inch shorter, and they recommend a M.

Using it off road, and not for CX race days as such, im thinking id be more suited to a M, over a M/L as they aren’t compact frames?

I know you wont know for sure until you ride it, but being second hand, I don’t want to waste anyones time.

Help!?

Thanks,
Mike

m/l is 56cm, which sounds about right, I'm an inch taller and would be deliberating between m/l large. Bessides the longer wheelbase is what gives you stability, which is what you need off-road, if it's too short you'll be all over the front wheel on decents.

It does depend on your leg/torso/arms as well though, but unless your freakishly proportioned I'd get a 56.

Hi, I have a TCX 1 in medium. I'm 5'9" with a 30" inside leg. I've found that because the frame has such a high bottom bracket your standover height is compromised. I'm inbetween sizes and I think if I went to a small I'd need a very long stem because of the compact top tube.

Were have you found this bike? Is it in Andover as there's one up for sale in my LBS at a heavily discounted price.

Great bike btw. Easily my favourite bike. So much fun to ride.

i'm 5'11" and i reckon the m/l would be ideal.

545 (medium) would be too small imo.

It's not a mountain bike, so the silly long seatpost look is not important. What is important is a reasonable length stem and reach to the hoods and drops so you can move backwards and forwards on the bike while riding it; no uppy-downy seatpost stuff either.

Go bigger if in doubt.

Thanks all - So it seems i may be ok on it after all.

you mention standover - and this is my main concern. Do you mean this means the top tube is high??

Its a second hand TCX2 which im looking atm, not one from a bike shop, although andover isnt that far away if you have details please??? Size available etc.

Yes top tube height. Not really a problem though and never had a Top tube - nad interface. I can certainly stand both feet on the ground, just a little tight, but no more than my other bikes.

Here's the detail of said bike. Clicky
