[#9383930]

Hi

I can't make my mind up where to go in sept. We have two weeks off and fancy a bit of a tour on the tandem. Want warm ie 25+ and little chance of rain. Maybe coastal. Not loads of hills - want a chilled out trip. Must be near an airport so we don't have to have a car. I don't want to drive at all

Can the great hive mind help?

Warm, reasonably flat and near airport - cycle along the EuroVelop Med Route 8 - Nice to Milan is 300k

Swindon, obviously.

Canal du midi, fly into Carcassonne, bike down to coast and back, or t'other way.

I think I'd head to the south of France and ride towards Italy, lovely route. If you want to base yourself somewhere then Nice would be a good start point
It's also worth looking at Ibiza, cracking weather that time of year and if you stay away from San Antonio then it's a lovely island to explore.

Danube riverside tour; very flat, city to city and several ways to make it work. Cicerone do a pair of guidebooks.

Ta folks.

I did think of canal du midi and I have the danube in my head for a longer tour at some point.
Is the coast from nice towards italy not rather hilly?

Keep 'em coming folks - ta muchly

Baltic Sea Cycle route? I've ridden parts of it and it sounds just like what you are after. Only problem being no rain but Germany often has nice weather in September.

Now that would a good, flat and interesting route. Did luke/Munrobiker and mrs not do that a couple of years ago?

I haven't ridden it, but have driven the Donau / Danube from Passau to Vienna - there are long sections of dedicated cycle track and it is well served by the towns and villages along the way.

Andalusia? Cheap flights to Malaga. Mountain roads, lots of tracks, old railway lines etc. Get away from the narrow coastal strip of the Costa del Sol and it's all lovely.

I recall from a biking holiday with Joyriders, 6 years ago?, a real nice looking cycle path, think it was long distance, called the via verde?.

The Via Verde tracks are mostly converted railway tracks - there's a few in the region.

My cycle tour from Malaga took us from the coast through 2000m on day 1.

So take care with route selection

I rode along the Dordogne from St Emilion for a couple of hundred miles 2 yrs ago (only had 2 days) and would definitely like to do more. Mostly riverside paths, quiet roads. Lovely.

And the wine! 🙂

Into Nantes and then down the coast towards Ile de Ré. Shouldn't be too busy in September (it's like the M25 in July & August).

I've always wanted to do the Loire valley, never properly researched it though.

Another for Vendee, into Nantes airport then somewhere south on the coast.

TJ - I'll throw one out there as an idea.

I'm fascinated by cycling the IGB, and been researching it for my bucket list

There's EuroVelo 13, the road version (iron curtain trail) which follows the broad route, and then there's an annual race, the Grenzstein trophy, that is off road, but it's not entirely clear how much legal access there is to the actual IGB route the rest of the time

Some good articles, like this one:

Sorry, should have been clearer (and it looks like you might want to just do the flatter half...)
