Any tips? Got some new rigid Singular steel forks, with a dirty great steel steerer about a foot long. Any tips other than hold in a clamp and chop to desired length? I can't see how the cut is that critical, as long as about 75% of the stem has steerer in it, if you see what I mean. Anyone made some DIY saw guides to keep it perpendicular?

Personally, I'd not cut a steerer to under 200mm because it makes them so much easier to sell on later if you need to

I normally use an axe.

Raise it above my head shut my eyes and swing.

I have lost a couple of forks using this method but when it works its really good.

A pipe cutter might struggle on a steel steerer.
Jubilee clip & a hacksaw is all you need.
And as peterpoddy said, leave the steerer at 200mm.

Aah! Jubilee clip - good one! I've been putting off cutting mine down purely down to fear of c0cking it up! (Strides off to find hacksaw...).

nice one, cheers guys. Good point about leaving it long - I was all set to chop it to 170mm.

Now, where's that axe...

An old stem with an old spacer to put the blade against. ๐Ÿ™‚
