Are crown races different depending on the headset?
2 bikes, 1 has a king headset, the other a crank brothers. Can I swap forks or will I also need to change the races from the forks?

usually you will need to swap the races too, unless you are very lucky.
IMO, I would say keeping the matched crown race is good practice. There are no guarantees they will be all compatible.
If the bearing specs are the same (inside and outside diameter, angle of lower race) and the race fits within the cup you should be ok. But I'd stick with the right bits if I were you unless they're actually identical (unlikely).
You could cut a thin (1mm or less) slot in the two races to make getting them on and off easier - don't worry, lots of manufacturers do this anyway, like Hope for one.
