Are they allowed does anyone know?
I can't see anything on the website and I'm still waiting on a reply. I quite fancy the July event.

Actually while I'm asking. Are there any other of the well know MTB marathons 12's and 24's that would accept riders on crossers.

What are they going to do about it? Seriously?

Have you ever talked to anyone that's done them on a crosser?

Nope, but what is the difference between a crosser, a 'monstercross' and a 29'er with thin tyres and drops? I'd be pretty relucant to acquiesce if someone wanted to get shirty about a non-issue like this ๐Ÿ™‚

I did the 2nd Builth Wells one last year. There were a few comments made at the start and a few more as I passed people!!It was pretty darn quick and nice to be at the front at the start for once.However.....for the 100k it was very physically draining. The agressive riding position, err interesting high speed braking and lack of cusioning (even compared to my normal rigid mtb) really beat me up -worse than the 3peaks!Despite a bit of heatstroke I still squeezed into the top 30 though.I may stick cx tyres on the 29er for a worst of both worlds option for the next one!!

You're meant to say 'no' to which I reply exactly.
(Harry Hill voice on) I don't know why I bother.

I know a couple of people did the SPAM 100s on them a few years back. I just applauded their taste and bike selection as they zoomed past, it was perfect for them apart from the woods singletrack.

Can't see why anyone would care unless you win of course ๐Ÿ™‚

I marshalled at the Ruthin round last year....not ideal weather or course but I counted half a dozen or so.They got the cow bell and a few "allez"'s.

Seriously though that's what I thought. This runs 42mm tyres, similar to 1.75 29er tyres. MTB hydros. XT rear mech and cassette, and Midge bars.
Though strangely you can run a 29er at any of the big 24's with out and out road wheels and CX tyres. Or a drop barred MTB.

I'm getting closer to the opinion that a fat tyred disc braked cx bike might be the ONE for me....the big question, gears or not?

I did think of going singlespeed at first, but then remembered how usefull gears are on those long long winter muddy climbs. And I don't think they climb as well on techy stuff as a normal singlespeed MTB.
I mean I'm sure they'll do anything, but you'd be cream crackered a bit sooner.

Are you!
Mind you I recall the inaugral event having quite a few rocky bits i.e the loose boulders at the top of the fire road, and the step like section coming back down into the woods by the campsite.
Hmmm

I'm sure I saw a few at the Ruthin marathon last Autumn too. I was watching - injured again.

Quite fancy having a go at one of the shorter routes as I've done some of the Clwyds on my UJ previously.
