For a few weeks now my Anthem makes creaking noises when I pedal stood up 🙁 Is it BB or frame issues? I am taking the bike to the guy that built it for me some time next week after he builds the new wheels to fit but I am a bit worried in case it is a frame problem.
The BB I think is part of the newest Deore chainset and only 5 months old. Any opinions welcome!
BB creaking in the shell, shot pivot bearings, or handlebars in stem. Take 'em all out and grease and if that doesn't fix it smash the sodding thing up!
Check the pedals mate, i had the same issue today and after much investigation, re-greased my pedals and all good !!
it's not coming from your knees? 😉

Nothing is getting smashed! I love the thing 🙂 Riding about in the Whippendel Woods today and it was a blast, almost forgot it was creaking really! I will leave the whole regreasing to my fixie dude lol I am afraid if I take anything apart I won't be able to ride it tomorrow!

Would the pedals not creak even if I was sat while pedalling?

Ah now, funny thing, my knees crack and pop all the time... but not when I am cycling ! Go figure that one out!
My roadbike was creaking and it turned out to be the lower headset race that had fallen to bits.
+1, It must be yer knees 😛
I am fairly sure it is coming from around the pedals/cranks/BB actually! But have heard that despite where you might have heard it come from it does not mean it actually comes from there!! lol
Try the handlebars, regrease the bolts but not the clamp.
The last one I had was ???????....I don't know but a spring clean cured it.
The one before that was a crack above a spoke hole on the rear hub.
The one before that was worn bearings in the rear hub.
External bb's undoing themselves is a common one, usualy on the driveside. Pedals are another common source. Creaking seatposts, especialy if you have shims, are another.
Loose chainring bolts/ stem handlebar interfaces/ suspension joints/ and any other moving part on a bike including non moving parts like a crack in the frame.
Joy!
check your mech hanger is tight - might was loose and the creaking was travelling up the frmae to the BB,
So in all as I said it looks like a job for Ben not for me! 😀 I will let him figure it out!
I has a really weird one which took ages to track down; a loud creak every crank rotation under load; tightened end bars, pedal, pivots; the lot. Started some months after I got rear wheel rebuilt at LBS with Hope ProII hub (on Marin Rock Spring frame). Turns out bearings are known to loosen just a bit; LBS stripped down, tightened and all OK.
sure it,s not the hinge on your wallet 😉
Nah, good guy, great work and building my wheels for 10£ each I'd say very reasonable prices. I'd rather let him sort it out than start taking parts off my bike then have no clue how to put back on! Just was trying to put my mind at ease that it is not my 6 month Anthem X frame cause then I'd start wipping really!
MrElectric the wheels are being switched altogether so that will have to eliminate that cause lol

Last time I thought I had a BB creak it turned out to be from the seat tube. It had cracked most of the way round and was about to come apart from the top tube... 😯
check pedals first, then chainring bolts.
If a 8 stone guy managed to break the seat tube on a 5 month ridden bike most of it off the saddle ... I dunno I don't think bikes would exist lol My top tube is fine though, I checked lol!
As a, errm, hard rider. I get creaks all the time. My experience tells me that the original pace you think it's coming from, will be the furthest point from where it is actually coming from 6 months down the line when you figured it out.
For a stood up creak though my first guess would be stem or headset.
Enlightening guys! Thanks a lot lol Everything has been mentioned thankfully the frame is not very popular on the list which is a relief. I might test a few of the suggestions tomorrow. The weather is really gorgeous round here so I am off for a few hours ride so will try and isolate the causes that have been mentioned and try and figure it out.
It's probably coming from the nearest marin!
A guy that I ride with some times has one lol Will check closer next time to see 🙂
Had exactly the same problem a couple of years ago. Sounds ridiculous but eventually found it was the the rear axle/skewer moving very slightly in the dropouts. Wheel out, a bit of grease round the dropouts, wheel back in, sorted
Vrapan- i have exactly the same problem as you, especially when im stood up but i dont stand up that much unless its a downhill, it happens on mine when im in a low gear mainly, but it sounds like its coming from the BB but i haven't had my BB that long its fairly new, im taking mine to a shop if it gets any worse but its not good to ride through town and everyone's looking at you as if to say wtf is that loud noise! :/
my old trance sometimes creaks when standing up - it's so far always been the sockets in either brake levers or shifters (where the outer & cap sit in the recess in the lever). They seem to accumulate crap when wet & then it dries out and the creaking starts.
When standing - because you're compressing the fork more, so the cables twist slightly in the sockets and the bike is quiet otherwise. Don't hear it on downhills because of all the flying gravel, squealling brakes etc.
saddle? cro bars moving in/on seat clamp... insulation tape round cro bars..my noise stopped....however, have anthem too, with XTR crankset and mine creaked in a similar way after about 3 months...BB had got crap in and was shot..new BB and job sorted..HTH
Captain it has become louder since I changed tubes on my back wheel.. I wonder!!!
Thankfully it is not that loud chris, my sloppy gear changes are a lot louder really :p
sometimes mine is really loud, especially if you have just washed your bike lol
DSB that was my first thought. If it has all crapped out I will do one more upgrade - XT chainset - so here is hoping sorta! :p
