For me atleast I have always just ridden what ever crank length was on the bike. I guess they have been mainly 175mm.
If I was to buy a new chainset for my son should I get a shorter IE 170mm set.
He is a large 12year old at 5'7" and growing fast and a reasonably strong rider.

yeah, maybe even 165 if you can get them for the same price.
sounds very tall for a 12yr old
