I'm getting a loud cracking sound under load from my Hope XC rear hub. I'm guessing that the pawls aren't engaging and slipping due to wear. Anyone experienced similar or am I barking up the wrong tree? Cheers.
Had similar a few years back. Was knackered ratchet. Email Hope, they should be able to fit a new one if that is the prob. HTH.
Cooie.
Had the same thing earlier in the year. Thought it was the pawls slipping, turns out the axle was broken. You can tell if it's the axle if you grab either side, and when you move it laterally it has more give in it than it should, ie : it wobbles. Easy to replace ( the drift is the same size as the Pro II ) and it's worthwile replacing bearings at the same time whilst you've got it stripped down. I took mine to Merlin when mine broke, as I didn't have the time or tools, and I think it cost me something like £45 all in. Considering the price of a new hub, don't think that's too bad. Running lovely and smooth now. HTH.
Badly worn/broken bearings can also sound like this.
