I've spotted a 2012 Cove Std for sale and as I've always fancied a Cove and would like something bigger than 140mm for the bike park I was thinking of taking a punt on it. Its equipped with Fox 36 forks at 180mm, DHX Coil shock and a small frame.
What do we think? Suitable for bike park duties and occasional shuttle runs? What's the sizing like?
It's for sale at about £900 at the moment. Might have a bit of haggle room in that.
Bump for the morning folk 🙂
I've got one, it's sat in the garage unused. It's a big heavy confidence inspiring bike. I stopped using it because the GSpot was almost as good downhill and better uphill. Keep meaning to get it back up and running for bike park duties. It's quite short and high but the suspension works really well and it pedals well for its size. Bombproof. I ride a M and I'm 5'10".
If / when I redirect mine I'll put offset bushings and an angleset on it. Maybe even triple clamps and just use it as a Dh bike. It's a shame it's sitting so unloved.
Happy to answer any specific questions on it.
Not exactly, but I've had a Shocker and I've got a G-Spot now - they ride exactly how you think they would (relative to each other) as the G Feels just like a lighter Shocker. So I assume the STD will sit somewhere in between.
I love both of them, they don't make much sense 'on paper' they're stupidly expensive new, don't really change much year-on-year so are 'old fashioned' and they're heavier than most bikes of the same sort of money oh and when you try to sell them there's not exactly a huge market for them - but people who own them always love them - they're really, really fun to ride - I'm not sure if it's the bike of just me but when I ride a Cove I just take the piss out of the terrain, I hate to anthropomorphize things - but they seem to have a way of working which is almost like an personality.
Practicalities - they're incredibly tough, if you really care about the looks of them they put the stickers on them rather than in the lacquer and nice thick coats of metallic paint so you can polish out scratches, stick some new stickers on and they're like new - oh but don't break a hander - they're massive and form part of the frame, are magnesium and cost £70.
I'm also 5-10 and medium fits me perfectly. You'll have no problem uplifting all day on it.
I really love my Cove STD, haven't really even had a chance to take it out yet (trails been too wet!) so I'm in no position to offer any input, but man I'm 40kg and it's a tad too heavy for me 🙁
Great, thanks folk. Should of said I'm 5' 7", so probably going to go and have a look at it in the next few days. The current owner has fitted NSB dropouts which slacken and lower it a bit too. Bombproof sounds perfect for me, I'm not a big guy but I'm not exactly a rider with finesse or one that avoids crashing a lot. I've got a 140mm bike for xc and am duties so this would be pretty much just bike park stuff.

Freakin' spot on! Had mine for about a year and a half - it doesn't get used anywhere near as much as it should - weighs a ton but is an absolute riot. Running Boxxers on mine and have been tempted to swap to Fox 180s or similar to help with climbing but I think that would ruin the DH experience.
I'm only 5'2" but it's a short bike so feels pretty manageable - certainly character building on the ups though 😉
@Mamadirt Wow that loooks awesome :O One hell of a bike 😉 And I can't believe that you're 5"2, I'm 5"5, I think I just need to man the **** up haha xD
I had one for a few years, bought it in 2007.It's a big heavy free ride bike that gets going like a train. Very burly and tough. I had totems /Saint group on mine and big hope disks. It goes down anything but I found it needs about 15 miles per hour plus then it's weight disappears and it just eats everything in its path. I'm not an aggressive or very rad rider and am a bit old but that bike was great going down fort bill DH etc. the trouble on more local runs was just pushing it up, and it's heavy to lift out of cars and chairlifts etc. I sold mine on the classifieds in STW last summer for a bargain 500. It was a mint bike and just wasnt getting used, but amazingly took some time to sell!!! Some cheeky guy even tried to knock the price down from £500. Anyway I sold it to a deserving lad who wasn't going to haggle over a few quid on a bike that cost quite a few grand. He was delighted .
By the way I'm 5ft 7in and mine was a small
Thanks Radioman (and everyone else). I'm glad the small size was OK for you as I was worried it'd be too small Going to view it at the weekend. It probably won't get a proper run out until May when the Bike Park opens, but I can sit and admire it until then. They look really purposeful imo.

Cheers! Yep, to echo everyone's comments about weight, lifting it over gates, etc, is definitely not an option for me 😆 . Once it gets up to speed though it's definitely 'sit down, shut up, hold on' 😛
Well, went and had a look and a quick try on the bike this evening. It looked stunning and not as heavy as I thought it would be, but it felt a size too small. Sitting on it felt great but once in the attack position it felt like the bars were too far under neath me. Couldn't see myself hitting anything of any consequence on it as as result. Really disappointed that it didnt fit 🙁
