not especially ... but if you go from laggan side to fort augustus it wouldnt be terrible

youll probably push most of the way up and crawl down the other side though

the ride up will be ok but down the other side will be a bit pushy once you get off the hardpack at the plateau

i got my only puncture on the route climbing from FA to the hut

I've done laggan to FA, a lot of pushing up after you get to a bit before the zigzags, the path starts to get stupidly eroded, i just walked up the zigzags. Down was great, I wasn't crawling anyhow that's for sure..

Going the other way would be a nightmare of a climb getting pretty rough towards the end, down the zigzags should be doable, after that could get a bit boggy in places, be mostly doable though in dry weather i'd imagine.

FA to laggan definitely more difficult.

I did it on a hardtail, saw an old guy heading up the opposite direction from us on an very unsuitable old rust bucket, so doable but i doubt enjoyable.

No. The first time I did it was on a rigid mountain bike in 1996, and I now have carpal tunnel syndrome*. Make use of technology (i.e. suspension forks) and preserve your body into old age.

Crossers are raced on typically muddy surfaces for a reason. Tracks like the Corrieyairrack are were suspension is at - in any direction.

*Not directly linked, of course.....

I/we did it a few years ago, I remember we rode all the way up from FA then down the other side to Melgarve, then down Glen Roy. Was probly 7/8 years ago & it was all rideable then but It'll hav echanged a bit by now.
Me at the start....

I did it a couple of weeks ago from Laggan to Fort Augustus. The start of the track is like riding up a river bed, bits were rideable but a bit of pushing involved. I pushed up the zig zags but they would be fun going the other way. All good once you get to the top although pretty rough. I did it on a rigid HT and some suspension might have made it more enjoyable but still great fun.

I camped on the FA side at about 500m [img] [/img]

was last year when i did it .... seosam were you on 35mm touring tires ? that was my referance to crawling ...

i was hooning it on my race bike(carbon ht with sids) to the point of where i thought best slow down before i break this thing 😀 - it was all ridable up to the last zig zag when i did it last year - there was still snow up top and that was mid may - right about 1 year ago this week give or take actually

I did it on a 63mm travel Kona hardtail with non descript thinish 1.75 tyres several years ago, going Lagan to FA. It was all just about doable but I did walk most of the zig zag troll's ladder bit just before the top.

I now own a CX bike (Kinesis Crosslight T5) and I'd not want to do it on that.
