Is it better to travel North-South or South-North or is either direction pretty much the same? I'll be going through in a few weeks but the direction that I do it is still open to decision.
I reckon it's better to go South - North into Invergarry.
The climb is shorter this way and the descent doesn't have the massive water bars that you encounter going the other way. I rode over it last year from Invergarry and then turned round and came back so tried both ways!
Cool. Coming at it from the South was my preferred direction as part of my C2C.
Definitely better East to West ๐
I've done it both ways and the waterbars going West are mostly rideable whereas going East they would be a tough step-up.

Definitely better East to West ...
It's been a few years since I've done it, but I have done both directions.
My preferred direction is towards Fort Aug for the simple reason that the views that open up are great. The other direction could be good but the pylons spoil the view.
I have been snowed in overnight near the top at the end of July, so treat the Pass with respect and be prepared. On the other hand it can be a nice doddle if the weather is good.
east to west, did it last year..
east to west seems best to me. Either way I'd sooner be going up there than where I am now.
Cheers guys, luckily I'll be doing it from East to West (Starting in Montrose and finishing in Fort Bill) so it sounds like I'm approaching from the right direction. I'll let you know how it goes. ๐
