Have opted for the Five rear maxle swingarm, so going to have to swap the axle over in my Pro II hub.
Looking at the Hope video guide, I think I will only need to remove & refit one bearing - i.e. the non-drive side hub bearing.
In which case I don't think I need any specific bearing removal/fitting tools.
Is this right?
I recently replaced all the bearings in my Pro II rear hub and didn't use/need any specific tools although they would of made it easier. Just followed the video on the Hope site and all went well and caused no damage to it.
Thanks.
I will give it a go, as can't seem to find any tools in stock anywhere.
18 Bikes will do the full set for around £20
Just done mine and the only tool I wished I'd had was the freehub seal tool for refitting.
If you're converting from QR you need a conversion kit which includes a new spindle and 2 end caps, existing bearings are retained; http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=21849
As Bobster said, the one tool you probably need is the freehub seal tool, but thankfully I had a large 3/4" drive socket that did the job just as well, a 1 3/4" soil waste pipe would probably do the job too.
In the end I ended up ordering the Pro II tool kit from Bicycle Doctor.
Great service. Ordered Thurs night at 9pm, package arrived on sat at 8am. Conversion complete by 0830am.
The whole process was much easier than I imagined.
Plus I now have all the tools to do both hubs, so should save me a few quid in the long run on trips to the LBS to get bearings done.
Now just waiting patiently for Orange to paint and dispatch the frame.
hi, and welcome to my 1st posting. . my hope pro II rear hub is sounding awfull, new bearings should sort it, and from what you guys are saying, fitting them myself seems like it'll be a doddle, ...... however, i'm off to Afan on 8th may, and the only place i can find bearings is chain reaction, they're out of stock til 15th may.... bugger!!!!! Anyone know where else i might find what i need?
