[#691738]

Just got a pair of Continental Rubber Queens 2.2 UST from a website, where they were described as being black chilli.

They arrived yesterday, scanned them all over, and cant see any mention of black chilli, on the tyres or box, or instructions.

How are you meant to tell if they are actually black chilli?

Yeah, but all the UST ones are meant to be black chilli.

I wouldn't worry too much whether or not they do actually contain it, as they're a good tyre anyway. Mine (the 2.2" UST's) don't. IIRC only the 2.4" UST has the compound.

Whether or not they do has been discussed on this forum several times over the past few months; several folk have contacted Continental in the UK and received varied responses!

The 2009 Catalog does clarify on p33 that, as other have pointed out, only the 2.4 and 'Handmade in Germany' tyre contain the compound.

Alright, so what do you think I should do?

How big are the 2.4s? Are they massive? Used the Mountain King 2.2s before, and they were tiny, But dont want something too big.

Is it even worth getting black chili? Does it make a difference?

I had conti vertical pro 2.3's.They are not a wide tyre as their width is measured including the tread nobbles. My kenda 2.1 nevegals are wider than the conti's. Go for it, great tyres.
(Although they are not a wide tyre check the diameter for rear mech clearance etc.)

I have a 2.4 Rubber Queen on the front of one of mine.

You ask if they're massive. No, they're not. They're MAHOOOOOSIVE!

I had the 2.4 with Black chilli, and though it was fantastic. When i eventually got a 2.2 I can't honestly say i noticed a difference.

They both seem to climb better than anything else i've used, maybe not fast but certainly tenacious!

Got some 2.2 non Black Chilli, best Conti tyres ever so far, roll well tarmac, grip well (in all conditions so far!!), no 'squirm', steers nicely, and no loud roar on road (which I hate and a sign of inefficient rolling on tarmac!!). Significantly larger than 2.2 Mountain kings, with wide flat tread
