Looking at getting a GX 10sp rear derailleur but unsure whether to get long or medium cage for 1x10 set up. 11-42 rear cassette - so 31 max tooth derailleur required. The info on the Sram specs just says max 36 tooth - it doesn't specify anywhere what each cage length can handle, which is hopeless. Reviewing compatibility guide (
) is a little bit helpful but the max cassette range is 11-36, there is no 11-42. They recommend short cage for 11-36 1x set up, so I'm assuming for a 1x10 11-42 cassette a medium cage would ok? Would be much easier if they just said what each cage length can handle!

Universal Cycles lists the medium as 35T capacity, so it should be what you need; also, One-Up say their 42T expander works with any SRAM Type 2 derailleur (presumably 2.1 as well).
