It might be a bit optimistic... but thinking of heading up to Golspie and around Torridon for the Easter weekend.
Anyone local or who can let me know what the conditions are like? Hoping to stay low enough to avoid the snow, but concerned the trails might be frozen from overnight.
Cheers.
i rode the motorbike over there before this recent dump of snow and the hills were all snowcapped.i dont think it will be too good over the next week by the looks of things. stay low in a forest!
At Golspie low means the beach. The hill will be pretty much unrideable at the mpment. Starngely Laggan are claiming to have missed the snow and are open. Not close enough to Torridon to comment but judgeing by the Live Cams at traffic cams I'd not bother there either!
Might be worth having a look at Traffic Scotlands camera views, during daylight hours, right enough. Spoke to my folks, who're just north of Torridon, on Sunday & it was clear/wet then but snow expected... By the look of Ullapool camera it looks like it arrived.
Overall not the uplifting report I was hoping for! Thanks for the information. I might give Laggan a bell and see whether the trails are rideable or not.
Cheers
If you're on facebook join basecamp mtb, they've got pics of Laggan. Looks fine.
and now it's bright sun in Edinburgh, it's teasing me....
I'm headin up next Wed to Lochinver, and hope to ride Golspie whilst i'm up there (Possibly the saturday)
Golspie village has a FB page, and pics taken on the 12th March show no snow at all.
Wonder if we could pester them, as Wildcats doesn't seem to have an up-to-the-minute trail conditions report.
I can see Golspie (when it's not raining or snowing) from the hill where I ride. On Mar 12 there was no snow because it had all melted by then but I suspect there's heaps on the hill just now. I'll let you know if I get out before daylight fades. The Fyrish boys update their conditions quite regularly and that's not too far away so google them for a better idea. I'm itching to get up there again. It's only 20 miles or so as the crow flies but it's 2 hours drive ๐
Any update on Golspie conditions?
Just called the chip shop at the bottom of the hill at Golspie... Word is the trail is clear of snow, just a bit muddy. And they're open 4-9PM
That's my mind made up for next Sat !! Bring it on.
Any of you fancy a trip up ?
I'm not sure how sensible it's going to be riding it for the first time solo....
Is it any more technical than Glentress Black ?
