I'm looking for a pair of over-trousers that I can use for commuting that will be waterproof, comfortable and not too expensive.
I have a 5 mile commute, 2 or 3 days a week on back rounds and country lanes that aren't really strenuous, and am looking for something under about 40 quid - the further under that the better if possible.
What would you suggest?
Cheers.
I just stick on some Regatta Pack It trousers on if it's piddling down on my 10 mile commute. Less than £15 and they do the job - also keeps the water out of my winter boots by stopping the water running down the cuff. Previous to that I've used Aldi over trousers for years until they wore out.
Mudguards with front mudflap and Rainlegs. Worked for me for 20 mile round trip commute.
RAF goretex trousers for me.

£25
The latest Aldi/Lidl ones have a built in overshoe cover - might be excellent, I've not got round to buying some to try yet though
Not seen those in Aldi, @paule but will have a look out when I'm next in there.
Hadn't considered army surplus either, which is a little annoying as I was in an army surplus shop a few days ago, and could probably picked a pair up then.
I'm waiting for the mudguards to arrive, should have turned on by Friday but no show yet.....
I'm 6"4 with a 36" waist.
I bought some from a army and navy store that had loads of sizing.
As in leg length, waist and then some other measurements I've not seen on any trousers before.
The RAF has a lot of people in it. They all need goretex. Took a while to find a pair that was right for me.
Fine as is on my 4 mile commute.
I need to ride with braces on if on an all day 25 mile mountain bike ride. These, braces, gators and water proof boots are dry for a good 4h in the peak district deep winter rain. I get a bit soggy and cold eventually.
This shop has all the sizes, but seems to be totally out of stock.
