Friend of mine wants a commuter bike. He has his heart set on a Cannondale badboy. Which one though? The normal v-brake model or the Disc model?

Is he going offroad on it?
Rim if not, disk if he is.

i have a small badboy ss rigid lefty with ebb, the cannondale ebb is shite as the release circlip fails (can release with a drift and hammer) the rigid lefty fork is just that, VERY rigid and transmits every detail of the road, the avid 3 brakes will need replacing after a winter of salt as the pistons stick, mines for sale if he's still interested

Perhaps the least comfortable bike I have ever ridden.
Want my disc 26 for pennies?

just get a road bike and have something that's useable beyond the commute.

In my mind discs = thief magnet so on that basis alone I'd probably go for Vs, unless he has somewhere nice and secure to keep it. Same probably goes for the lefty fork models- low profile they ain't.

definitely 700c wheels for commuting = so much quicker than any mountain bike

I ride a Specialized Tricross singlespeed with Specialized Armadillo All-Condition 700 x 28c tires (100 psi) and it goes like sh*t off a shovel

I do about 100 miles a week commuting and have never felt the need for gears or suspension

where is the commute? distance? surfaces?

I have a single speed Pearson Touche - 700c wheels (622-28) plus room for proper mudgaurds.. use it once a week for commute from Woking to Victoria..

simple and quick

Not totally hempful but I'd recommend a revolution courier... Bit heavy but solidly reliable, pretty dull to look at so less of a theft target, quick enough, and well thought out. Mine is the Courier Race which means 700c and 1x8 which IMO is perfect for commuter use.

In my limited experience discs on a road bike is just a novel way to overwhelm the limited grip faster. Good v-brakes well maintained will stop you pretty hard.
