[#10843367]

just replaced 11spd cassette, chain, front ring. Basically like for like, 32t front ring, 11-42 rear.

with the clutch on now it’s stiff to get up to the 42, and when there won’t shift back down towards the 11. Fine with the clutch off, and was fine with the previous 11-42

im guessing that backing off the clutch tension a bit would help but I’m surprised that where there wasn’t a problem there now is...

any wise words??

Dunno, but it's possible that the clutch became a bit gunked up. Maybe moving it further dragged a bit of dirty grease into the normal range of operation.

Good news is they are actually fully servicable. Pop a few screws off and it can be cleaned and re-lubed. Instructions online somewhere. It's probably a good thing to do every few years anyway.

Oh, but if you do this there's a bit you grease and a bit you must not grease. So take care.

Because of the extra friction, clutch mechs will feel really stiff when your cables start going stiff. Try new cables if you haven't replaced them.

Changed cable, that seemed to sort it out, but I had a fettle with the clutch as well. I think the mech is a bit old, there’s a bit of play in it, also had a tweak of the b screw. I’ve had issues with the chain dropping and a little tweek to tighten the chain in the smallest cog seems to have helped!
