Went out on the new hardtail today and put the old spds on as an experiment expencting to hate it and want to sell them, but I enjoyed it.

It made it more composed on the rough bits, I could get my weight over the front easier without having to drop my heels to keep them on the pedals and I ended up with loads of PRs.

But I can't help thinking now that its cheating and my technique is going to go down the pan.

Are clips really a good idea for a hardtail (didn't notice much difference on FS) or should I work harder with the flats technique?

I'm not racing, just want to have fun and not crash. But I do like going fast.

You seem to prefer them, do what you want?

You think all the pro riders worry their technique is going down the pan? I find people only say that when they personally can't ride with spds.

Oddly I did try an ebike for 30 seconds or so on today's ride too. It was hilarious, laughed the whole time.

I don't know if I prefer them either really, that's what's confusing me really, I prefer everything about flats, I was just really surprised how fast I could go down hills on the clips today, and I was going through some of the choppy bits loads faster than I thought possible on a hardtail.
