Morning,

Anyone got any recommendations for a Chinese company that sells carbon tubulars. Need a pair for cross racing. I know that there is a huge range of opinions out there. Any one has a company that they recommend.

Cheers,

Matt

If your running disc brakes then i don't think you can find better than this for £500

Farsports? They tend to be the default Chinese carbon exponent I think, there are others I presume? I've never had tubulars from them, but the two lots of carbon clinchers/tubeless I have had experience of were all fine. YMMV. IANAE etc etc.

I had a set of planetX tubs analagous to those vision ones (they were PX branded) and they were spot on (until I cracked the rear with a heavy impact on a rock in a race). Would buy again, but I actually replaced them with a set from a lad who was importing in bulk from China under the imaginative name of 'unbrandedcarbon.co.uk' for around £350, again wheels were fine but I didn't like the profile for CX. He doesn't seem to be active at the moment looking at the FB page, though - but this is the sort of price you might expect to pay.

Carbon tubs on novatec disks are about the simplest wheels you can imagine so I'd be OK on taking a punt with any importer like this, just a bit fussy over the rim width and profile like I mentioned so need to have a look at it. I've rolled a tub or two in my time and don't like that classic narrow, dipped profile - prefer something wider than 19mm.

I just ordered rims (40mm deep asymmetric "road/cx/gravel" "standard" T700) from BTLOS ("beyond the limits of self") - slightly cheaper than lightbicycle and they've get a good rep on the mtbr forums. Their "standard" warranty is only 1.5 years (3.5 for "premium") but I figure that's enough time for problems to show up. If you're not in a hurry I'll be happy give a report in a couple of months about how they're holding up.
