Madison Sportive Race bibs. They're far better than their price indicates! I know fit is a part of it, but they feel better than shorts at double the price.

What else has surprised you recently?

My voodoo Wazoo fatbike.
It's rad. I have changed the bars, forks and brakes mind but only to pimp it. Nothing wrong with the stock things.

Discontinued karrimor sleeping mat. 300gram air bed for £20. Worth every penny when mate on a 300gram £60 airbed that's really uncomfortable unless he sleeps on his back.

Lidl's champagne from about 10 years ago (not bought any for a while). It was better, to my taste, than stuff that was three or four times as expensive.

........edit.......this is the bikes bit isn't it....oops.

I'll go with Decathlon 700 bibshorts. The best I've tried and can be had for £25 when on offer.

Prosecco. Oh no, sorry, most of the stuff sold isn't really Proseccos and 99% of it is shit. The 1% is still in Italy.

Yeti Big Top bought off here. Not "cheap" as such, but cheap for how marvellous a bike it is.

2nd Decathlon dropper and the the Costco pack - can't get either now and I need to replace after 6 hard years.
On one smorgasbords - 2nd set, dirt cheap and spot on.

Madison clothing is the most expensive stuff in my cycling wardrobe!
All good though.

My Genesis TourDeFer came with a 9sp Alivio chainset/cassette/mechs. Shifts better and nicer than my 10sp XT setup on my MTB. It really is amazing stuff for very little money.

+1 Madison clothing. Great fit, nice colours, works very well, isn't expensive.

Another vote for Decathlon's hydration pack. Karrimor softshell jacket, still going strong after nearly 3 years, versatile and my go to jacket.

The cheapish secondhand XTR brakeset I bought off of someone on here a few months back. Surprised me by being complete bobbins.

Well, the rear was anyway. Rear caliper exploded oil everywhere after the first bleed, so I replaced that - and now the rear brake master cylinder lever end appears to be 'weeping' oil gradually... 😕

I was warned that 'the rear brake needed a bleed' - should've known 🙄

A pair of Decathlon's top of the line (£27) baggy shorts. Excellent fit, materials and durability. They've lasted 3 years of week in week out use and still look like they have a way to go.

Sadly their range looked like it had gone down hill when I went in recently.

On-One Chunky Monkey tyres.
Nukeproof Bars, £17 in the CRC sale.
Also bought a pair of S/H superstar pedals off here for £20. 3 years and 3000 miles later they're still as smooth as the day I got them.
