My birthdays coming up and the missus was going to get me a nexus 7 but can't be arsed and just told me to order it for myself...

but then I noticed some cheap Drop bar, fixed/free, gas pipe framed bikes are going on fleabay for similar money and thought that might make a better pressie for me... not that I really need either but a cheap winter SS comuter might be better for my health than a tablet which will just mean I spend more time on my arse using STW and reading about bikes rather than riding one....

sway my decission as you see fit please STWists...

SS road bikes are great. I got a Langster last year for under £300 on ebay to save my Lynskeys gears from the weather and roads and sort of prefer it to my posh bike now.
Well up to 60-70 mile days as long as the knees are up to it.

Not all SS road bikes are great - I'd go SH at that price rather than new.

Very much this. Oh, and go fixed, not SS. No point to SS on road.

I was wondering a similar thing. Were these the kind of singlespeeds you had in mind?

Perhaps someone has some experience of buying one (or similar)?

SS is fine - not everyone wants fixed.

I've seen a few cheapies, they were awful.

Dont buy Nexus just yet - apparently the 32Gb is imminent and is likely to drop the price of the 16 dramatically as soon as it is announced, wait a few weeks and you could save £50 or more

Err SS? Just make sure it's baby blue or lime green, and wear a vintage courier bag 😉

Get one of those On One Machiato thingies. If it rides like the Pompy, it will be a treat 🙂

Selling my SS road bike was on of the worst decisions I have made.
