i have a steel frame with vertical dropouts and am installing a Rohloff system.
i dont want the tensioner and the only way around it is to alter the rear dropouts to make them sliders. It would be too much work to get a new BB shell to take a new EBB.
i have looked at the possibility of using those EBB's that fit inside a normal BB shell but am unconvinced as to their longevity.
Will this have a major impact on the frame stregnth/ride or is there any other alternatives?
Very few framebuilders would want to replace the BB shell in a frame anyway, it is the structural member of the entire diamond frame, and would be an absolute devil to get the frame aligned again.
get a competant framebuilder to remove the dropouits and braze some Rohlhoff dropouts on, then you don't have to use the stupid speedbone either and it will look as tidy as it is possible to get a Rohlhoff frame to look. or sell the frame and buy a Thorn.
