[#3668125]

The other half bought me a chainguide for my b'day and I stupidly thought I would need an ISCG '05 guide but have discovered that my 2011 Pitch has ISCG old tabs on the frame.

Will it work if I use the ISCG 05 bb adaptor plate i.e. will the plate/screws foul on the original iscg tabs? Would it matter if I didnt mount the plate exactly as directed i.e. slightly off centre etc.

Thought I would ask before I start dismantling everthing just to find that it doesnt fit. Also I cant send the chainguide back as they dont make it in ISCG old fitment or straight bb fitment.

Cheers

as far as I can see your best option would be an ISCG '05 to BB adaptor

I've got an 03 silent guide and an 05 frame. I've got a bb to 03 adapter so I can give that a whirl and see if it takes off. I'll post up the results when I get a chance to try it...

The nomenclature is ridiculous. "Old" ISCG is what most modern bikes seem to come with.

The bolt circle diameter is smaller on "old" ISCG, that's basically the only difference. I suspect if your frame is "old" ISCG and the device's mount plate is 05, it'll simply be too big and there won't be a way to bodge it directly onto the frame. Vice versa (05 ISCG frame and "old" ISCG device) might be bodgeable. A BB mount might work though - you should be able to tell from the pictures online whether it will foul your frame's mounts.

In my limited experience, most chain devices require a certain amount of bodging / filing to work properly so don't let that put you off - even if you get a supposedly compatible device it probably won't work perfectly out of the box.

Ooops ๐Ÿ˜ณ

It's taken me three weeks to get round to trying this but unfortunately it doesn't fit together.

I've got an 03 silent guide and an 05 frame. I've got a bb to 03 adapter but when I fit that it moves the chain device too far towards the chainring and it all binds up. I could probably install a spacer behind the bottom bracket to move it out a bit but I'm not willing to risk that as I have a tendency to break stuff (especially around the threads of bottom brackets... so I'm not going to take any chances with bodging in that area).

Next up... I either buy another silent guide as the back plates are not available separately (my other frame is 03 so I want to keep this one)... or I look to do something else to make it work. Make my own thinner ISCG 03 to 05 adapter, or make an ISCG05 backplate to fit?

Time to break out the carbon or aluminium plate and a dremel?

Seeing as took me three weeks to try putting that lot together I would expect a completion date somewhere in 2015 for anything involving power tools ๐Ÿ™„
