When buying a new road bike last week it was suggested I get "wet" or "dry" lube or some bizarre stuff with wax in that is "self-cleaning".
Are these really necessary or just marketing ploys?
Been using finish line red for years but the wax stuff looks pretty good.
This is on a 9 speed mtb so 10 speed might be different.
I used to swear by the dry, waxy stuff (White Lightning) in the summer on my road and mtb bikes. However, its next to useless in the wet/winter.
I now use Pro Link chain lube on my bikes for much of the year and Finesse Multi Lube (which is really messy and sticky) or Finish Line wet lube in the winter.
I had some wax stuff on my road bike. After the first ride on damp roads the chain went orange with rust by the next day. Pretty underwhelmed really - and I had followed instructions to the letter... degreased chain, made sure it was totally dry before applying etc. Still looking for a decent wet lube.
