I am considering going to a single ring up front just to keep things simple. Its a hardtail so there's no mount for a chain guide. What type of chain guide would be best? Pics of your conversions wild be nice to have a look at too!
Thanks.
Mine is just using the cheapo Superstar bottom bracket mounted guide, works very well (that's just a top guide though- wouldn't work without the clutch mech keeping things in order at the bottom)
Just waiting for an MRP one to turn up- same deal but a lot lighter (and prettier!)
What are the options when the frame has no mounts, are the adaptor any good?
I've just done this myself on my hardtail, I used an E13 Lg1 guide and Renthal SR4 chainring, I used the iscg 05 type with BB adaptor as my bike doesn't have tabs on and wanted to be able to swap it in the future if the need arose to a frame with tabs. To be be honest I found it to be a bit of a pig to align everything correctly but it's been worth it. I'll try my best to upload a photo!

Hope that helps?
EDIT: Don't buy a White one, look at the state of it after a month!
I just fitted an E13 LG1 trail guide. It has both top and bottom chain guides but no bash guard so its mega light. It went really easily and is a BB. specific fit.
CLC are selling them for £79.99.
Good innit?
Thanks, making more sense now, I take it the bb mount would be for use with Hollowtech type bb's?
You're correct. I think it also works with a race face BB/crank set. But Im not entirly sure.
Superstar do one that bolts on like a front mech also, so will work with any BB.
This is my Superstar BB mount one...

Works perfectly. You don't need a bottom guide unless your really going some over rock gardens etc.
Hope have a lovely set-up coming out. £35 for the guide & £75 extra for the integrated chainring & bash. It is nice though.
