When your young you kinda want to be like you sporting hero's, but you kinda want to be cool too. He's just not cool. Just my opinion.

I'm not denying he's a supremely gifted athlete, just feel that a little humility might make him a more likeable person.

i don't think he's that worried about being "a more likeable person" he wants to win not be your best mate. his parents, team mates and close friends oviosly don't have a problem with his talent or his supposed arrogance.
FWIW i don't think he is that arrogant just a great athlete who wants to win.
