just wondering - is there a compatibility or does one have to be full one or the other? Looking to stay away from shimano this time..

Talking road shifters, rear/front mechs, cassette, cranksets..

you can get JTEK adapators to enable mix & match with various different groupsets. Just search google for JTEK

bon et voila merci 'snaps'..tu est vraiment con.

Apart from the fact that this is a bike forum, not an MTB forum..there are a number of people on here who ride on the road..so please refrain from your typical response.

to be honest you are probably best to pick a manufacturer and stick with it. ie pick Campag or pick Sram, mix and match can work but is often not worth the hastle.

The only thing where compatibility is remotely guaranteed is chainset, and that is only as long as you pick 10spd to go with 10spd.

In my particular case i am using a 105 front mech with Campag 9spd Veloce shifters, the front Campag shifter is micro indexed so this is possible. Although whether it still is? i am sure there was something about the newer Campagnolo front shifters not being compatible with the older Campagnolo front mechs. Also the older campag front shifters, well the ones i have used, veloce, centaur, and daytona are both double and triple friendly.

I have a C40 running 10 speed Campag drive chain and shifters (Chorus) and a set of Ksyriums SSC SLs with a Shimano Ultegra 12-27 block and I use a JTek thingy and it works damn fine.

Just make sure you change the shift cables when you fit it. The reason I fitted a Jtek was the Mavic M10 cassettes cost an arm and a leg and Campag cassettes did not have the ratio for my my 53/39 set-up in hilly areas, I like to spin.

If you go to their site they do mix and match combinations of the top 3 to cater for all eventualities.

Jtek ๐Ÿ˜€

With adapters you can do anything, without them I would think the only thing which is interchangeable would be cranks.

They all use slightly different actuation ratios, but for all intents and purposes SRAM and Shimano mix and match without any problems, but Campag does not play very well with either...

However, as mentioned above, the JTek allows mixing various components, plus CRC have some funky Ambrosio cassettes that allow you to run Campag ergos/rear mech with Shimano wheels and vice versa, which might help with things...

But, unless you have some need to, why not just stick with one manufacturer, then you know it'll all work fine...

I looked into this as I'm *fingers crossed* getting a Roadrat on the B2W scheme and wanted to transplant my Campag stuff onto it, while still running the cable discs, which is a problem as getting hold of Campag compatible disc hubs is expensive! That was when I discovered the Ambrosio cassettes on CRC, which seems a far better(cheaper) solution for me!

I use 10 speed Campag ergo levers with 9 speed Shimano transmission on my cx bike - you just need to fix the cable as shown here:
