I'm just about to fit some 2013 Rockshox SID XX 29er forks with standard non-tapered steerer, but I noticed how utterly massive the crown is compared to the headset (see pics)
The chunkiness of the crown looks more suited to a tapered steerer, but its a straight steerer? I've never seen such a step between fork and headset before.
Any thoughts before I cut the steerer down and no going back??

Its to accomodate a step down head set better. so the crow race sits flush.
