I need some mounts. Post mounts for 200mm at the front and IS to post adapter for 180mm at the back. I either buy Hope mainly because I trust them to use the material they say (2014 is great), Shimano for the same reason (I suspect the the material is 6061) and they're a bit cheaper, or go for something I know is Chinese in origin and is made from a silvery material that they claim is Aluminium. If the mount was simply being clamped between the caliper and frame/fork it wouldn't really matter, but that's not the case.
I know the ultimate answer is what's my life worth but if I go for the Shimano I get both mounts and hardware for the price of 1 Hope mount. Similar savings if I go for Chinese.
if I go for the Hope, I could get them in purple to match the headset and hubs, but that's getting a bit sad...
I've had cheapo ones, Hope ones and everything in between and never had one fail, if I need one I just select the first of the correct size from the spares tub. The Shimano ones are generally quite heavy if that bothers you, but obviously we're talking a few grams.
Put up pics of the one you want, i bet i've got at least 3...
I must have 10+ of these buggers in various forms.
I wouldn’t get too het up about bling brake caliper adapters personally. It’s just a chunk of metal - maybe some are lighter / have more machining than others but as long as it’s solid I’d just run with it.
I always go for the XTR mounts because they’re so minimal. It’s silly, I don’t save weight anywhere else but they’re light and they’re pretty. A lot of brake mounts are fugly IMO. If you look for them whenever you remember at CRC you find them similar price to plain Deore from time to time. Never paid full price for them but they’re aren’t exactly expensive. Never used the lockwire in the kit but it’s nice to know it’s there.
If your calliper is a Hope E4 get a Hope adaptor otherwise whatever you like (E4 fouls a lot of adaptors)
Shimano ones are fine and you get the bolts. They also come up on eBay for £1-£2 quite regularly
