If you were given some money (say, £1000 limit for rules of the game but don't have to go that high) and had to buy something British (and I'm not going to get into discussions about what is 'British') and possibly from an machining/engineering type angle as a keepsake, maybe use and abuse but look fondly on in a few years, what would be on your list?
Thinking things like maybe Middleburn cranks, Smiths watch, Naim hifi etc.
does it have to be a thing you use? or can it just be a 'thing' you admire/look at?
A grand would buy me some new Hope wheels and cranks for my MTB and wheels for the road bike.
Curtis frame, raw lacquer.
Probably a steel bike frame. Can't think of much else that £1000 would buy; it's really not a lot of money for something 'British and engineered'.
As much lathe and mill as I could find and squeeze into my garage (disclaimer: my current combined lathe/mill is about 40cm long and it still doesn't really fit)
Being that I'm British and work in engineering I'd commission my self to do something thereby keeping the £1000
Is that cheating?
